WHEN TO SERVICE YOUR CAR?
CAR SERVICING

Ever wondered if you need to service your car?

Car servicing is preventative maintenance. Regular maintenance is important to ensure safety reliability, drivability, comfort and longevity of a car. During preventative maintenance, a number of parts are replaced to avoid major damage or for safety reasons, eg cambelt replacement before it snaps can save you the difference between getting the leak fixed or writing your engine off on the motorway.

Most modern cars only need a service once a year, but older cars require a service every six months. The manufacturer's service handbook will say what is needed for your car. The type of service you need will also be affected by how you use your car.

Our regular customers have the benefit of their car full service history on file, so we can make accurate decision on what needs doing in the car.

The rule of thumb is that after every 6,000 miles your car should get an interim service.

For an additional charge, a 'green test' is performed. This test is designed to check the car emissions and to reduce emissions. In this test, there is fuel treatment, brake efficiency, lambada sensor check, emission check, and carbon offset checks.

That is the work that you can expect from Ichthus Motor Services to do depending on the type of service that you are getting done. Older cars require frequent service than new cars. Just in case we make replacements, we make sure that the replacement parts will not invalidate the car's warranty. Neglecting getting the car serviced on a regular basis is going to reduce the life span of your car.

In the case of a diesel vehicle, the fuel filter is replaced.

In the case of the petrol engine, the spark plugs may be replaced.

In addition, the air filter is replaced and the wheels are balanced.

To know when to get the oil changed in your car, you will need to consult the car owner guide or ask your car service centre technician. As a general guideline engine should be changed after every 10,000 miles.

After every 12,000 miles, or once a year, you must get a full service done on your car.

When organising a car service, it is important that you establish what service includes. Generally, there are three types of car services.
